The brainchild of SportAccord president Hein Verbruggen the event is set to maximize visibility and to further promote sports.Verbruggen is looking to develop multi-sports events for SportAccord as the umbrella organization of 87 International Sport Federations and 17 Associated Members.

The agreement was signed last year in March with the city Beijing, P. R. China, to host the Games. His connections to Beijing are solid as he also served as the head of the Beijing 2008 IOC Coordination Commission overseeing the preparations of the Olympics.

The new martial arts initiative will list 13 Combat Sports and Martial Arts, both Olympic and non-Olympic such as Aikido, Boxing, Judo, Ju-Jitsu, Karate, Kendo, Kickboxing, Muaythai, Sambo, Sumo, Taekwondo, Wrestling, and Wushu. There will be competitions for both males and females and with weigh-ins for the pertinent sports.

During the eight days of competition the Combat Games will also gather 1108 athletes contending for 136 gold medals. There will also be a rich cultural program depicting the traditions of the sports involved and their social contributions.

In a bid to kick-start the games, Former MMA star and Fitness Model Melissa Lukon has released her own Workout DVD. It focusses on all of the core muscles groups in the body, and is themed especially for MMA enthusiasts.
